My Life and My dream in NJUPT

Introduction Hi, my name is Howard (2021BBA 陈皓文).I am born on 19Furthermore, I am very happy to be b...
Furthermore, I am very happy to be born inMalaysia as in this country it is a necessity to learn two of the most important languages at the same time which are Chinese and English. Aside from that, my hobbies are playing the guitar, watching anime (FELLOW OTAKUS,REJOICE) and so on. Other than that, currently I am studying in Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, it has been an honour and I am grateful to be given this chance.
My hometown is Malaysia, it is a beautiful country that is located to the south of China. It is a country that consists of different races such as Chinese, Indian, Malay and so on and all races live in harmony.
Furthermore, it is very normal to learn at least 3 languages which are Chinese, English, and Malay at the same time since elementary school which allows almost all Malaysian to have a special skill which is the ability to speak two of the most important languages in the world. Aside from that, there are a lot of delicious delicacy in our country, ranging from the Chinese category, we have steamed buns, chicken rice, from the Indian category, we have roti canai, dosa and from the Malay category, we have nasi lemak, ketupat and so on. It will be a shame to not try out all the delicacies in my country aseach of them has their own unique flavour profile, making all of them special and delicious at the same time.
A lot of my friends ask me a few very similar questions which are “How long did it take me to learn all these languages?” or “Is it hard to learn so many languages at the same time?” and so on. Therefore, I am writing this in hopes that everyone who reads this will be able to learn new languages much easier. First and foremost, the reason I am able to speak Cantonese and a little bit of Hokkien and Hakka is that my mother comes from a Hokkien while my father comes from a Cantonese and Hakka. Therefore, as time passes, I am able to speak Cantonese fluently as we speak Cantonese alot every day. Furthermore, the reason I am able to speak average English as a Chinese it is probably because of two reasons, the first is that unlike normal Chinese family household which will send their children to a Chinese based kindergarten, my mother noticed that most Children from Chinese household have poor English; therefore, she decided to send me to an English kindergarten in hopes that I will learn the basic of the English language. Moreover, the second reason is that although after graduating from kindergarten, my mother sent meto a full Chinese based elementary school and I still remember that during my first grade, it was very difficult to communicate with others as I did not speak Chinese at all; therefore, after speaking broken Chinese that is highly mixed with English for about 2 to 3 years, I was finally able to speak the Chinese language but unfortunately my English was getting worse and worse. Fast forward to fourth grade in elementary, I had an English spelling test and gotthe score of 1 out of 5 which was later found out by my father, and I was scolded and got the cane which is a type of punishment that is very common in Chinese family. From that day onwards, I have decided to get better in Englishby doing everything I like doing in English. For example, watching videos on website in English, reading English books, playing games that is in English and soon. They prove effective as me myself is the best evidence of this method working effectively. On the other hand, during around my sixth grade inelementary, I was in this phase where I was crazy for Japanese anime for another 4 to 5 years which allowed me to learn a little bit of Japanese and I was having fun while learning it, so it was a win-win. In conclusion, in my opinion, to learn a new language effectively, we must first love the language and the second step will be trying to do as many things as possible in the language. Anyone wishes to learn and gives it enough time and determination can masterany language in this world!
Last but not least, I would like to give my thanks to all the teachers and friends in NJUPT for making NJUPT great and most importantly, I would like to thank NJUPT for giving me such a great opportunity for I am very grateful.
Special thanks to Dr. Yifei Jing(Peking University) for checking and correcting the grammar and vocabulary of the post.
